The Best Beaches in Ghana
Five hundred kilometres of Atlantic coastline, and most visitors only ever see one beach. Here is where to swim, surf and do nothing.
Beaches · 14 January 2026
Ghana has coastline the entire length of its southern border, and outside a handful of spots near Accra you will often have a stretch of it to yourself. A warning before the list: the Atlantic here has strong currents and undertows. Swim where other people are swimming, ask locally, and take rip currents seriously.
Labadi Beach, Accra
The busiest and most social beach in the country. On Sunday afternoons there is drumming, dancing, horse riding and food stalls the length of the sand. Come for the atmosphere rather than the swimming.
Bojo Beach, Accra
Just west of the city, reached by a short boat ride across a lagoon, which keeps it calmer and cleaner than Labadi. The best easy beach day from Accra and popular with families.
Ada Foah
Where the Volta meets the sea, two hours east of Accra. Palm-lined sandbars, island stops and warm shallow water on the river side. Our Ada Adventure tour spends the whole day here.
Busua, Western Region
Ghana’s surf town. A long gentle bay, board hire and lessons on the sand, and a walk around the headland to the quieter river village of Butre. Five to six hours from Accra, so stay at least two nights.
Axim and Cape Three Points
The far west, and the closest point in Ghana to where the equator meets the prime meridian. Empty beaches, a 17th-century fort at Axim and rainforest running almost to the shore.
Kokrobite
Forty minutes west of Accra, long associated with drumming and dance schools. A relaxed, backpacker-friendly stretch with live music at weekends.
Anomabo, Central Region
A quiet fishing town with a wide beach, easily added to a Cape Coast or Elmina day if you want to finish the afternoon by the sea.
